6 Ways to Grow your Email List!

Your email list is one of the most valuable assets you can have as a business owner. The ROI of email marketing is for every $1, you receive $40 or more in return. I know this is true, I can look back at past newsletters and see the sales and engagement as a result.

In addition, your email list is more powerful than a social media platform. You are at the whim of the platform, if it goes down or if you are put in jail (locked out of the platform), it can cost you a lot of money and opportunity cost! You always own your email list and can import/export and take it with you anywhere.

I get asked all the time how to grow your email list and wanted to share some techniques that have worked for me, clients, and peers

  1. Being consistent and sending out email on a regular basis. I find monthly or bi-monthly is a great way to remind people and get in their in-box (see,  you are reading this and it worked!). Once you stop and start and take a long break from sending out your newsletters, you lose the momentum and consistency of people engaging with you.

  2. Have a strong opt-in or lead magnet. This can be tricky in the beginning to find something that people are willing to sign up for in exchange for their email. Focus on more value, the better. One example could be a video from a presentation or a value packed e-book with content that you KNOW your audience will love.

Check out my opt-in here, scroll down to the middle bottom of the home page, I offer a social media training - it’s about 30 min or less.

  3. Make it easy for people to say yes to subscribing with you. Anytime you interact with a potential client with an online form (contact, questionnaire, sign up for an event) ask if they would like to join your newsletter. I bet you will be surprised at how many say yes!

  4. Utilize social media platforms you are on and have 1-3 posts each month devoted to promoting your newsletter. The best way to do this is offer a simple freebie like a worksheet, podcast, and/or informative PDF to help provide value in return for their email address. You’ll be surprised how effective it is.

  5. Have a call to action to sign up for your newsletter at the bottom of every blog post. There’s a good chance if they liked the blog post, they will want to read more from you.

  6. Add a newsletter signup link to your email signature.  It’s a great way to expose your newsletter to many people. Again, if they like the type of content you provide or the notifications you share in your newsletter, it will be a good motivator for them to sign up.
