Don't Go It Alone

As I’ve gotten older, my back has gotten more sensitive. Of course having a child hang off your body puts some stress on it. Let’s say since becoming a mom, but back wasn’t very stable anymore.

It really became a problem a few years ago when I ordered some mulch for our yard. I spent a few hours shoveling mulch into a wheelbarrow and then distributing it onto my plants in the front yard.

The next day I woke up and my back was so tight and painful, I couldn’t unload the dishwasher, I couldn’t bend over and do normal tasks.

I wanted to crawl into the fetal position and cry.

It was a very scary feeling and final after trying ice, pain meds, and more - heat helped me feel better.

Most of that day I kept wondering if I could do something to help prevent this from happening.

Of course, being human -  I LITERALLY HAD NO PLAN AND NO HELP, AND I EXPECTED A MIRACLE. And guess what, I continued to have back problems and was worried I couldn’t even hike or walk without pain.

I knew I needed help. Finally after hemming and hawing, my husband recommended I find a personal trainer to help me strengthen my back.

In my first session I told the personal trainer my back woes and asked how she could help me.

She of course has heard it all. Instantly she gave me a set of exercises to do daily and weekly to strengthen my back. The exercises would also help avoid the strain I was having in the past.

I felt a sense of relief.  I couldn’t have figured this out on my own.

I never would have learned — and I would have continued to be in pain for years and worse.

This is the power of learning from someone who knows what they're talking about.

This is the power of not trying to do everything yourself.

For some reason, us humans want to figure everything out on our own!

Instead we try one thing or ignore the problem and hope for a miracle that it will get better!
